Hero MotoCorp will not restrict its scooter offering to internal combustion engines. As it plans to launch the Leap hybrid scooter Hero MotoCorp Leap that was showcased as a concept at the 2012 Auto Expo . The Leap is a serial hybrid scooter with an 8KW electric motor and 124cc petrol mill.
Hero MotoCorp, the most trusted and reliable two-wheeler company launched its first hybrid scooter christened as “Hero MotoCorp Leap” in India. The scooter comes equipped with a lithium ion battery, an 8kW electric traction motor and a fuel efficient 124cc engine. It was first showcased at the Indian Auto Expo in 2014. This hybrid scooter is one of its kind in India, which will give a tough competition to Terra A and Hero electric two-wheelers.
Hero MotoCorp Leap Features
The vehicle has overall body dimensions of 1,884mm x 850mm x 1,162mm (LxWxH) and has a wheelbase of 1,347mm that ensures superior handling in all traffic conditions. Furthermore, a minimum ground clearance of 140mm promises good stability around the corners. The instrument console of the scooter is easy to read and informative comprising of digital speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge.
The Hero MotoCorp Leap has lithium ion batteries and an 8kW electric traction motor. The vehicle is further equipped with a range extender, which is basically a 124cc petrol engine directly connected to an onboard generator. It derives its fuel from a 3-liter fuel tank and electricity from the rechargeable lithium ion batteries. The company claims the extend range to be four times the distance batteries alone covers. When running via range extender, the scooter manages to clock a top speed of 100kmph. The vehicle runs through a Permanent Magnet AC (PMAC) traction motor that belt drives the rear wheels. The motor delivers a peak torque of over 60Nm and promises silent operation.
