Google launching two new flagship smart watches in the first quarter of next year. According to Jeff Chang, product manager of Android Wear at Google. The new watches the flagship Android Wear 2.0 devices. And the first ones Google Smart watch to launch with the new platform. The new google smart watches had been rumored before. But Google confirmed the upcoming launch today as part of a larger effort to convince consumers that wearable smart watches specifically are still in demand.
Google Smart Watch Features
The new model not has Google or Pixel branding, but it branded by the company that is manufacturing them. Google help with the manufacturer which he wouldn’t name. But said has produced Android Wear devices in the past on the hardware design and software integration for the watches. He likened the partnership to Google’s Nexus smartphone program in terms of collaboration and goals.
Following the launch of the new devices, existing Android Wear watches get the update to Android Wear 2.0. The new platform brings a number of new features. Including standalone apps that don’t require a phone to work, support for Android Pay. And support for Google’s voice-controlled Assistant. This has already launched on the Pixel smartphones and Home speaker.

Not every existing Android Wear watch will be updated. But Google says most of the recent models . Certain features, such as Android Pay, require specific hardware, so not all models support them. The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition has NFC support. And the new watches coming next year . But it is not a requirement for Android Wear partners at this time.
Google release the fifth and final developer preview of Android Wear 2.0 in January. And it is expected to include support for both Google Assistant and Android Pay in it. It also work with iOS devices. And that while there will be differences between Wear 2.0 on Android and iOS, Android Pay work on both platforms.
In addition, after Google’s flagship watches launch. Other partners release new devices with Android Wear 2.0 throughout 2017. Partners announce on new devices are expected at both CES in a couple of weeks. And the Basel world trade show later in 2017. The company says it’s committed to supporting and promoting these launches in order to help build awareness in a consumer climate. That is becoming increasingly adverse to smart watches and wearable in general.

Though the smart watch market is still nascent compared to smartphones. It appears that Apple is already starting to run away with it. And its only competition so far has been from Samsung. This doesn’t use Google’s platform on its devices. Fit bit is the leader in fitness trackers. But its recent purchase of Pebble indicates that it will be looking to move into the smart watch market, as well. None of that bodes well for Google, which has already spent two. And a half years trying to make Android Wear a success, with less than stellar results.
Google’s strategy of working with many partners on Android Wear devices is advantageous. “We have enabled a lot of diversity with our hardware partners to target different types of consumers and preferences”. He says, before noting that Google is “quite optimistic” about the prospects of smart watches. “This is a marathon, not a sprint. This category of product is here with us to stay.”

The LG Watch Style and Watch Sport are designed with Google, and set the standard for Android Wear 2.0 smart watches. LG’s two new smart watches were designed in collaboration with Google. Most likely in a similar fashion to how most Nexus devices were built. Both devices serve different purposes. The Watch Style is the smaller, elegant option with swappable bands. And the Watch Sport is bulkier, bigger, but packs way more features.
The Watch Sport has a 1.38-inch, full-circle Polymer-OLED display. And its screen packs a 480 x 480-pixel resolution with 348 pixels-per-inch. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor with 768MB of RAM. It houses a 430mAh battery and has 4GB of internal storage. And you’ll find the following sensors: GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi, accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, a PPG to measure heart rate, and an ambient light sensor.
The screen is covered by the stainless steel case and Gorilla Glass 3 all of which helps make it 14.2 mm thick. There are three buttons with specific functions on the right side of the watch that help make it look sporty. One triggers Google Fit. And another Android Pay in the middle is a rotating power button that lets you call upon Google Assistant when you hold it down. Google Assistant is also a new addition in Android Wear 2.0 of Google Smart watch.
